Frequently asked questions

Tell us what you're looking for and complete your rental profile in just a few minutes. Our team draws on its apartment database and direct relationships with landlords and leasing agents to identify properties suited to international applicants.

We review application requirements upfront and personally select apartments that fit your situation. Your dedicated Smoove space brings everything together: apartment suggestions, viewing requests, confirmed appointments and calendar invitations.

When you're ready to apply, we also help you prepare a strong rental application directly through the platform and guide you through the process, all the way to signing your lease.

Smoove operates on a success-fee basis, with no upfront fees, subscription or exclusivity. Our fee is equivalent to one week's rent, payable only if you sign a lease for an apartment found through Smoove.

We also aim to limit unnecessary costs, particularly by helping you avoid paid third-party guarantors whenever possible. Our fee remains the same whether or not a guarantor is required.

You can get started without paying anything upfront. Before officially launching your search, we'll present you with a representation agreement outlining our services and fee arrangements. You're always free to accept or decline the apartments we suggest. Our goal is to help you find the right home, not pressure you into signing a lease.

If your search with Smoove doesn't result in a rental, you owe us nothing. Likewise, if you find an apartment entirely independently, without Smoove's involvement, no Smoove fee is due for that search. Our approach is simple: we get paid when our assistance helps you find your new home, in accordance with our representation agreement.

Absolutely. Smoove was designed with international newcomers in mind, including those who don't yet have a US credit history or Social Security Number (SSN). We review your profile upfront to identify apartments with application requirements suited to your situation, helping you avoid unnecessary viewings. Whenever possible, we also aim to help you avoid the cost of a third-party guarantor.

In New York, landlords commonly look for a credit score above 700 and an annual income of at least 40 times the monthly rent. These expectations can put newcomers at a disadvantage, even when they have a strong financial background.

Smoove helps you prepare a clear, comprehensive rental application directly through your personal account, bringing together documents such as your employment contract, proof of income and savings. The goal is to present your financial situation effectively and reassure landlords, particularly when you don't yet have a US credit history.

Of course — we actually recommend it. You can create your Smoove account, define your search criteria and prepare your rental profile while still abroad. This allows us to start identifying suitable apartments and coordinate viewings around your arrival date, or even arrange remote viewings.

Real people are behind every Smoove search. Our team reviews your profile, personally selects apartments and communicates directly with landlords and their agents. Our platform makes the process simpler and keeps everything in one place, but it doesn't replace human expertise. We also know how quickly New York's rental market moves, which is why responsiveness is central to our approach.

Smoove was founded by Antoine Leservoisier after experiencing New York's rental market firsthand — first as an international student, then a few years later during a professional relocation.

Drawing on his background in finance and real estate, he created Smoove to make apartment hunting simpler and better suited to international newcomers.
